Abdellah Derkaoui drawings voice defiance to injustice and his colors create a new Moroccan experience in the world of cartoons.
was born in Belqsiri, Morocco, in 1970. In 1988 his first cartoon was published by the newspaper Al usbu al dahek, then his drawings appeared in Anwal Moroccan newspaper, and he currently works for Al Sahra’ Moroccan newspaper.
He participates annually in Le Salon de l’Humour in Saint-Just-le-Martel, France. In 1993, he won the 2nd prize in the Naji Al Ali Competition in London, and he won the 1st prize at the Holocaust cartoon competition of 2006 in Iran. In 2012, Derkaoui won the Jalal Rifai award for cartoons at the Journalism Forum held in Jordan. He has many works for children published in Al-Arabi Al-Saghir or The Young Arab magazine, and he illustrated the first Moroccan dictionary for children.
In his cartoons, Derkaoui mixes simplicity, sarcasm and surrealism. His drawings are his vent where he expresses his worries and those of his people. The Arab world’s issues stir a sort of creative frustration in him which he translates into sarcastic illustrations. Despite the relatively small number of Moroccan cartoonists compared to Egypt and Syria, Derkaoui optimistically notes the presence of new artistic awareness and skills.
Like the work of many other influential cartoonists in the Arab world, Derkaoui’s art contributes to the resistance movement against oppression and injustice and bears witness to the people’s struggle.
In one of Derkaoui’s works we see a man getting out of his room leaving behind his shadow handcuffed to the wall. This is the essence behind Derkaoui’s work; art is the living witness to the suffering of everyday life.
ريش] عبدالله الدرقاوي تقول لا للظلم، وألوانه تخلق تجربة مغربية جديدة في عالم الكاريكاتور.
ولد في المغرب، عام 1970 في مدينة بلقصيري، في عام 1988 نشرت له جريدة «الأسبوع الضاحك» أول رسم كاريكاتوري، ثم ظهرت لوحاته في جريدة أنوال المغربية، ويعمل حاليا في جريدة الصحراء المغربية.
له مشاركة سنوية في صالون الفكاهة في مدينة «سنت جست لومارتيل» الفرنسية. وفي عام 1993 ، فاز الدرقاوي بالجائزة الثانية لمسابقة ناجي العلي للكاريكاتير في لندن، وفي عام 2006 فاز بالجائزة الأولى في مسابقة «الهولوكوست ضد الشعب الفلسطيني» في إيران. وفي 2012 فاز جائزة جلال الرفاعي للكاريكاتور لملتقى الاعلاميين في الأردن. لديه أعمال كثيرة للأطفال نشرت في مجلة العربي الصغير ووضع رسومات أول معجم مغربي للطفل.
يمزج الدرقاوي في لوحاته الكاريكاتورية بين البساطة والسخرية والسريالية، فالكاريكاتور بالنسبة اليه هو المتنفس الذي يعبر من خلاله عن همومه وهموم وطنه، فالقضايا التي يعيشها العالم العربي تخلق داخله قلقا ابداعياً يترجمه الى رسم ساخر. ورغم قلة رسامي الكاريكاتير المغاربة مقارنة بالتجارب المصرية والسورية فان الدرقاوي متفائل بوجود وعي فني ومواهب جديدة.
ومثل الكثير من رسامي الكاريكاتير المؤثرين في العالم العربي، يساهم فن الدرقاوي في المقاومة ضد الطغيان والظلم الذي تتعرض له الشعوب، ويبقى شاهدا على نضالاتها، حيث لم يعد فن الكاريكاتور فقط على الورق بل صار في المواجهة .
في أحد أعماله يرسم الدرقاوي رجلاً يخرجُ من غرفتِه بينما يتركُ ظله مكبل الأيدي على الجدار. وهذه هي رسالة فنه، انها وثيقة حية تنقل ما يحدث داخل غرفة الآلام اليومية للانسان.
